Lampedusa: online-Interview
I´m looking for partners for email-interviews on Lampedusa.
My name is Christoph Marischka, i´m a schoolar of political sciences in
Germany. I´m doing my MA thesis on the EU-Migration-Policy, looking at
the case of Lampedusa.
As you all will know, the italian gouvernment is very reluctant in
providing data concerning illegal migration and by the nature of the
issue, many data are incorrect. For example migrants who want to claim
asylum report wrong countries of origin to avoid getting expelled befor
they can even make their claim. On the other hand, italian authorities
sometimes seem to label migrants untruely as egyptians, because they may
be returned to Libya. Furthermore, they are not interested in giving
information on the number of people who flee CPTs or identification
centers, or stay in the country although imposed an expulsion order.
Regarding these difficulties on official figures, i´d like to include
subjective approximations on what happens on the Island of Lampedusa, by
people that have been there, had contact whith people who have been
there, or are concerned with this issue for some time. For this purpose,
i prepared a little email- interview, wich takes about five to ten
minutes to answer.
I will translate the most informative parts of my german thesis into
english, which will be provided online, so that antirassist and human
right organisations can use the data i collected about Lampedusa as well
as italian and european migration and asylum policies.
If you were willing to answer the questions or have ideas and maybe
email of people i could contact for it, you could help me a lot to paint
a clearer Picture of what happens at Lampedusa and why.
